Holy Vestments

Holy garments for beauty and story

Curious girdles and bonnets for glory

Cunning work and fine twined linen

Ouches of gold, Urim and Thummim

Beryl and onyx, emerald and agate

Resounding hems gold and pomegranate

Engraved signets and wreathed chains

Unrentable openings like habergeons

A priest for the people held on his heart

Perfect High Priest glimpsed in textile art

  1. thank you. this is lovely. i was struck this morning by the line about how these things were "for glory and for beauty" (Ex 28:41). it's fun to hear God pleased by aesthetics. i know that shouldn't surprise me, given the beauty of the natural world, but it was a good reminder.
